- wuthering heights
Richard and Allegra van der Vliet were the type of couple that knew what they wanted, and certainly were never without the means to get it. Both had come from backgrounds of old money, raised alongside CEOs and political dynasties. It surprised no one when they married shortly after Allegra's twenty-first birthday; it wasn't a marriage of love, so much as one of convienence. They have grown fond enough of one another over the years, but both have taken multiple other lovers and haven't batted an eye over it. They married simply to merge their fortunes, and both were more than content with the situation. They had their first and only child, Ella Ray, in 1988, shortly after Richard had settled his business - he was a force to be reckoned with in real estate - in New Canaan, Connecticut. Allegra had grown tired of the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, and seeing as Trump had such a firm grip on the city, Richard certainly hadn't objected.

Growing up, Ella's relationship with her parents was less than ideal. Both had jobs that kept them very much occupied, leaving her primarily in the care of a very doting nanny, Victoria. If not for Victoria, Ella is fairly certain she wouldn't have gotten through her younger years surrounded by catty middle schoolers, and the pair are still in touch to this day, even though Victoria left the family when Ella started high school. It was then that she began attending Miss Porter's School in Farmington, and although she was initially not taken with the idea of attending an all girls boarding school, she has nothing but happy memories of the place. There was nothing of particular note during these years (aside from a few boyfriends that never lasted long, to the disappointment of her mother), though at seventeen she participated in the International Debutante Ball at the Waldorf Astoria, something that pushed her to realize the lifestyle she had grown up in was not something that she wanted for herself long term - something about being paraded around in front of the who's who of high society was unnvering and almost irritating, and shortly after the event she began looking at colleges outside of the east coast. There would be no Harvard or Brown, and she instead settled on the University of Denver (she had never been to Colorado and never even visited the campus before applying, but she was taken with the pictures on the website) as an undeclared major.

Ella's orientation at the University of Denver a few months before she started at the college proved to be a turning point in her life, for a myriad of reasons. For one, it was the mark of her finally setting out on her own - no Ivy League, no more private schools and brushing shoulders with Kennedys, no doing everything her parents wanted of her (though given they were paying her tuition and other extraneous expenses meant she did still depend on them a little, but she'd work on that later). It was liberating, to be quite honest. And for another, it was when she first met her now-husband, Matthew Warner. He was the tour guide for the duration of her orientation, and it was obvious from the beginning that a spark was there. She returned home to Connecticut for the remainder of her summer, but when she returned - as luck, or perhaps fate, would have it - the pair ran into each other at a party, reintroduced by a mutual friend. They began seeing each other shortly thereafter, and were essentially inseparable for the next few years.

Being in such an unfamiliar environment, Ella threw herself into any organization she could get her hands on freshman year. She rushed and subsequently pledged Delta Gamma, and got involved in French Club and a casual film studies group. She took a variety of classes her first year, trying to get a feel for what she wanted to do; at the beginning of her sophomore year, she settled on majoring in communication studies with a minor in marketing. She had a good sense for business, something she would begrudgingly admit she probably inherited from her father. She was lucky enough to have a few summer internships at various companies to help her narrow down the field that she wanted to go into after graduation, and she quickly realized that she would very much like to go into PR. She got to work with lots of different people, something that her outgoing personality lent itself to, and it meant she would be able to network amongst various business outlets. She decided around her junior year that she would also go ahead and pursue her MBA after her undergraduate school was finished, partly to give her more of a chance to work in business before she had to get out into the real world.

Unfortunately for her personal life, around a year after Matthew graduated, the pair officially split. They had been on the rocks for a few months now, partly because Matthew was unsure what he wanted to do with his life and Ella subtly pressuring him to figure it out wasn't helping, and they finally decided it was best to cut things off. Ella took it hard, throwing herself into her last year of college and applying for graduate school. She was accepted in DU's business school to pursue her MBA, and her sole focus became obtaining that. Her mother couldn't have been more thrilled, however, having never really liked Matthew in the first place; Ella went on a few dates with some men her mother suggested, though the longest one only lasted about six months around mid 2012. Allegra thought maybe Ella had gotten her "slumming it" out of her system, and was certainly crushed when she realized that was not the case - especially when Matthew and Ella came back into each other's lives around late 2013, and were back together not long after.

Ella graduated in December 2013 with her MBA in Business Administration, an accomplishment she ranks as her proudest moment. 2014, then, turned out to be an incredibly good year for her - Matthew proposed in the spring, right around the time she landed a job working as a PR assistant for the Denver Broncos, and the pair were married on September 13th. The marriage, however, was met with disdain from her parents, who had long never approved of the match, and when Ella informed them of the wedding, Allegra and Richard essentially told their daughter that if she went through with it, they would no longer be willing to be a part of her life. It was saddening at first, of course, but given that the pair had not been thoroughly involved in her life for the past twenty-six years anyway, it didn't phase her all that much - besides, she was gaining a wonderful husband, so the pros definitely outweighed the cons. Needless to say, things are certainly going well for her, both personally and professionally, and she can't wait to see what 2015 holds for her.
facts

• In addition to English, speaks French and Italian fluently. She spent summers in France growing up, and her mother is half Italian, so she grew up essentially speaking all three. She has a general understanding of Latin and Ancient Greek, as they were compulsory subjects in her schooling. She toyed with majoring in French before settling on communication studies, figuring it would practically be cheating to get a degree in the language.

• Despite currently working for a professional football team, Ella didn't really get into sports until midway through college. She always found them a bit tiresome and drawn out, but after attending one of the University of Denver's football games, she slowly found herself becoming interested. She'll never like baseball, though. Never.

• Was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, and held the position of chapter president her senior year. She is still in touch with a good amount of her sisters, and frequently attends various alumni outings.

• Is obsessed with Harry Potter, sometimes to an alarming degree. She's visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter multiple times, rereads the series at least once a year, etc. The amount of times she's considered buying herself a personalized Hogwarts acceptance letter off Etsy is higher than she'd like to admit.

• Her favorite movie is Casablanca, and the greatest tragedy of her life is that she will never get to meet Humphrey Bogart. Or Cary Grant.

• Is a textbook binge watcher. If she discovers a show on Netflix, she devotes the next few days to doing little else besides watch all the seasons the site has to offer. It's a problem. She's working on it (sort of).

• Had a very brief pageant career in high school. She was pushed into it by her mother, who became the typical overbearing pageant mom, and Ella pulled out of the circuit after winning runner up as Miss Conneticut and having to deal with her mother's hysterics for weeks after. Even watching "Toddlers & Tiaras" makes her irritated.
